MICHAEL E. PATUNAS, a member of the firm, is an experienced litigator with broad experience in a wide variety of litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, commercial and class action matters. He regularly handles complex litigation in the New Jersey state and federal courts. In recent years, his practice has focused mainly on intellectual property litigation in the New Jersey federal court, with a particular focus on complex pharmaceutical patent litigation under the Hatch-Waxman Act. He regularly counsels clients on a wide range of litigation issues arising in cases in the New Jersey federal court, particularly with regard to practice under the court's recently adopted Local Patent Rules. Mr. Patunas has been part of litigation teams in cases involving some of the world's largest selling pharmaceutical products, and has been involved in both bench and jury trials regarding products such as Celebrex®, Famvir®, Singulair®, Detrol®, Protonix® and Neurontin®.
Mr. Patunas is also experienced in land use matters, and has served as counsel to a local Zoning Board of Adjustment. He has worked closely with real estate developers seeking approvals for development from local authorities and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Mr. Patunas has advised clients in forming business entities, and has handled closings of corporate and real estate transactions.
Mr. Patunas is a member of the American Bar Association and its Section of Litigation, and is also a member of the New Jersey Intellectual Property Law Association. He is also active in the New Jersey federal court community, and serves as a director of the district court’s Historical Society. Mr. Patunas also participates as a mentor in Seton Hall University School of Law’s mentoring program for graduating law students. He has been named a New Jersey “Super Lawyer” by New Jersey Monthly magazine.
